Flori-culture | 7:11 PM |
Colombia is one of the best countries in producing flowers in the whole world. Most of the people do not know that almost all of the flowers seen in flower shops, grocery stores and other stores in the USA, come from Colombia. All those pretty colors and magnificent flowers are mostly from Colombia. Since I stated in most of my blogs before we all know that Colombia is not in a very good economic position, and the Colombian people survive only from the natural resources like i am talking about today in the Flori-culture business. As I researched Colombia has its own special areas of producing flowers, the first one is in the savanna of Bogota(the capital of Colombia),the second one is in Antioquia, and the third one is in center and west of Colombia. Also the highly requested product is the roses, and the second one is the carnation, which are beautiful colorful flowers and the most abundant in Colombia. I also found out that the most demanding countries that help Colombia in this business are : USA, United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, Canada, Spain, Holland, and Germany. Adding to that I also acquired this chart stating the exports in millions of dollars from the main countries in the year of 2007, from North American $933.0, Europe $100.4, and others $80.5, which was a total of $1.114 million dollars in the year 2007.
Just in the year 2007 Colombia exported 231.943 tons of flowers to various countries,I believe that this is a huge help for the country, but is definitely not enough for us to depend solely on the exports of flowers.

Unemployment

Colombia like many countries have to find help their own natural resources because the country is not one of the best countries to be financially stable. Colombia has a very high rate of unemployment, and this is the government's fault for having so many absurd rules and policies. An example of these rules is that if you don't look young or you are too old (30's) it is very difficult for anyone to find a decent job. DANE(Responsible for measuring the statistics of all the sectors of the state,) stated that the urban unemployment rate of 10.9% raised to 12.3% in a year. This statement applies to the country's 13 largest metropolitan locations.
Researches and observers of the Colombian economy know that the urban unemployment rate is affected more to unemployment instead of national rates which have a greater job market and opportunities. Another fact was that October-December period the urban unemployment rose from 10.7% to 12.3% in the same year of 2008. DANE also said that recently 2.43 million people were without a job in Colombia, up from 2.10 million in December 2008, also analyst state that the bigger unemployment rate helps or contributes to the weakening of consumer demand in the country. Maybe as the time passes by and the government actually helps with the economy and labor of Colombia, and don't get intimidated with other factors, Colombia will succeed and give jobs to Colombian people who really need to help their families.

It is really devastating to actually find out and research the Colombian Economy, what once was a growing country now is decaying financially. If we compare the Economic status from Colombia to lets say Japan we can clearly see that Colombia is not even close to Japan in that list. A study was done in Colombia by DANE (Department in charge of the statistics in Colombia,) in the year 2005, that states that the Colombian economy grew 5.21% compared in 2004, which also overpasses Ecuador, Brasil and Mexico but Venezuela, Chile and Peru grew more than Colombia. Professor Rafael Villareal has in charge an investigation from the Observatorio, states that the status of the Colombian Economy depends on the status of the world's economy, also the investigators say that the Colombian economy is definitely not stable. Another study was done by José Armando Hernández Bernal and showed that if we compared the PPI of a Colombian person to one from Japan it is really easy to observe that the Japanese individual is 12 times superior to a Colombian individual. The PPI of Japan in the year 2006 was 26.000 US$, while the Colombian PPI for the same year was 2.100 US$.
Hopefully one day Colombia's economy will grow and take the advantage of it's climate, tropics and more. An example of this is that the floriculture, which only took 30 years to convert Colombia in the second productor most important in the world besides Holand, another fact is the sugar and other derives from sugar which is the highest sector in productivity (96 tons per year) in the world. Another great resource is the tourism that also leads to agriculture, sports ,adventures, sun and beaches, history and culture and more. Even with all these magnificent advantages that Colombia have it is still very scary connecting it to unemployment and many more factors that hurt the country.

Colombia's Biodiversity | 12:39 PM |

There are many wonderful countries all over the world that have a variety of plants, landscape, animals and reptiles. But many do not know that the second country in the whole wide world that has the high biologically diverse is Colombia. Colombia has a variety of climates, it could be sunny in one place and another there is snow, also many types of birds, reptiles, about 456 different types of mammals, the number one country producer of flowers and many others. But also Colombia's quest to enlarge the economy has caused to the destruction of the beautiful forests at a rate of 1.5 to 2.2 million acres a year. As some may know Colombia is not the richest country, and there is a low rate of jobs and money. Also all this action of deforestation it has been illegal and caused many forest mainly in the Amazon to be left with no natural environments. According to the World Resources Institute, Colombia is not just letting this happen, Colombia is the leading the Latin American country in taking action for put a stop to this. The neighbor country Venezuela and Colombia has bind mining, logging and other activities that hurt this biodiversity. I also fount a table of LATIN AMERICAN ECONOMIC SYSTEM and it shows the fisheries and aquaculture production and trade, I saw that it alot of the Latin American countries rate of exports to the US has been growing in a high rate, maybe it it keeps growing it will help 3rd world countries.high rate, my Hopefully one day not only Colombia but the whole world learns to appreciate the beauty of nature.
Here is a website from the University of California where i got some information and the table and also a video.(you might want to fast-forward the video to maybe 4:20)
